Uranium: Energy Fuels, Inc--a Canadian Firm-- submitted its application to build a uranium and vanadium mill in western Montrose County. In December 2009, the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environnment (CDPHE) deemed the application complete, and is now planning a public meeting on Feb. 17, 6:00 pm at the Montrose Pavilion (sign-up to speak begins at 4:45 pm). Oil & Gas Drilling: The launch of WORC’s new Protect Property Rights.org website coincides with the world television premiere of Split Estate, a new documentary mapping a tragedy in the making, as citizens in the path of a new drilling boom in the Rocky Mountain West, including several members of Western Colorado Congress, struggle against the erosion of their civil liberties, their communities and their health. Oil Shale: Unlocking the Rock includes a spot with WCC Organizer Frank Smith! Shell Oil Co. has staked a new claim on the scenic waterway, seeking millions of gallons of H20 to support future plans for oil shale. [read more] WCC has taken steps toward potential litigation against the federal government over commercial oil shale development. WCC recently signed a “Notice of Intent,” a letter addressed to the US Department of Interior, expressing concerns associated with promulgated commercial oil shale regulations for public lands. Some of the concerns cited within the letter include potential Endangered Species Act and National Environmental Policy Act violations.
